Law 158-01: Promotion of Tourism Development (Confotur Law)

Known as the Confotur Law, this legislation establishes the creation of the Tourism Promotion Council (Confotur). Its primary objective is to promote and facilitate the sustainable development of the tourism industry in regions with high potential or natural conditions ideal for tourism exploitation within the Dominican Republic.

To achieve its objective, this law grants the following key benefits:
- Tax Exemptions: Includes exemptions from Income Tax, Real Estate Property Tax (IPI), and other national and municipal taxes related to corporate formation and real estate transfers.
- Exemptions for Tourism Projects: Waives the payment of fees and duties associated with plans, studies, construction, and the importation of machinery and equipment necessary for the initial installation and operation of tourism projects.
- Deductible Investments: Allows for the deduction of up to 20% annually of investments made in tourism projects from taxable income, with a maximum amortization period of five years.
- Exemption from Withholding Taxes: Does not apply to financing or interest related to tourism projects.
